KUCCPS Opens 2026 University Placement Portal — KCSE 2025 Candidates Have Until May 6

Thousands of students can now apply for degree programmes as KUCCPS begins the 2026/2027 placement cycle.

The wait is over for thousands of KCSE 2025 candidates across the country after the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) officially opened its portal for the 2026 university placement cycle.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, April 7, by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, following a briefing with KUCCPS officials led by CEO Agnes Wahome and Board Chair Cyrus Gituai.

Students now have four weeks to submit their applications, with the portal set to close on May 6.

For many young Kenyans, this period marks one of the most important decisions after finishing high school: choosing a course and university that could shape their future careers.

How the Placement Process Works

The KUCCPS system allows students to apply for multiple degree programmes based on their KCSE performance and the cluster requirements of each course.

Degree programmes are grouped into 20 clusters, each with its own competitiveness depending on factors like:

  • Demand for the course
  • Institutional capacity
  • Previous cut-off points

This means some courses may require higher cluster points due to popularity and limited spaces.

Funding Options for Students

Students placed in public universities will have access to both government scholarships and HELB loans, helping reduce the cost of higher education.

Meanwhile, those placed in private universities will be eligible for HELB funding only, as part of the government’s revised higher education financing model.

Currently, 30 private universities are participating in the placement programme.

A Critical Step for KCSE Graduates

Every year, KUCCPS handles the placement of tens of thousands of students into universities and colleges across Kenya.

The platform plays a crucial role in ensuring students are matched with courses that align with their academic performance and career interests.

For the KCSE 2025 class, the next few weeks will involve researching courses, comparing universities, and carefully making choices before the May 6 deadline.

Students are encouraged to log into the KUCCPS portal early, explore the available programmes, and submit their applications before the system closes.

With the clock now ticking, the journey to university life officially begins for the next generation of Kenyan students. 🎓
